The vessel is active in the fishery under the SAMSA survey, and all statutory SAMSA certificates are valid.
The vessel is a single-hulled GRP Motor Fishing Vessel with an Overall Length of 32 m, a Registered Length of 27.46m, a Breadth of 5.80m and a Depth of 2.45m. She has a main deck and shelter deck with one mast forward, raked stem, transom stern, and wheelhouse on the upper deck.
The vessel was originally built at HAN NAM Shipyard, Korea, in 1994 as a tuna longliner.
She subsequently operated in South Africa as a hake trawler until 2010. The current owners then purchased her—a complete overhaul and refit as a Sea Freezing Hake Longliner. The vessel was stripped of all equipment and fittings except for the main engine and gearbox.
She completed a full SAMSA Survey after a refit, which included the stability test carried out in Port Elizabeth.
In 2017, the vessel was converted back to a Tuna Longliner.
She has two main freezer holds, two-deck blasts, two slurry tanks and is fully shelter-decked, which is excellent for fish quality and working conditions for the crew all year round. The wheelhouse is spacious, and the skipper can see the hauling deck. Both can be used for fresh or frozen (-24C). Also included are slurry tanks at the aft and deck blast freezer, which runs at -30C.

As she was originally constructed as a longliner she has a favourable length to breadth ratio in terms of fuel efficiency and also has a bulbous bow.
Her main engine is MTU 12 V(electronic) 800hp(600kw) (certificate is incorrect) which is one of the more fuel-efficient engines available.
When freezing we were using about 1ton per day. When not running freezer about 600litres per day.
This could be reduced further if the intention was to operate her solely as a fresh vessel, then much smaller gensets could be installed.
She has two main fuel tanks which can carry up to +-22tons of fuel. Freshwater capacity is 20tons. She also has two ballast tanks
Which could also be used for fuel with capacity also of about 20ton.
The vessel has two deck blasts for freezing hake in pans, has 2 main holds each with blast freezing racks in as well.
She also has two “bait” or “ice” holds in the stern. She can freeze 576 pans @ 12.5kgs each giving a freezing capacity of 7ton per day.
The hold carries approximately 35ton of the frozen product. She can also operate as a fresh fish vessel which we are doing at the moment in the hake sector.
She is fully shelterdecked except opening on maindeck where lines are hauled. For the hake operation, she has a top and bottom line haulier
Each driven by hydraulics motors. The hydraulic system is driven by a pump off PTO on the main engine.
She is surveyed to carry total crew complement including officers of 29 men.
She is currently rigged for tuna longline with Lindgren pitman reel, with 9 GPS buoys, 1500 hooks in 6 hook boxes, etc. She handles sea very well here and has fished in up to 40kts and 5m swell when doing frozen hake in Cape Town.
