"Gaia" was originally designed and built as a deep-sea commercial trawler, launched in 1973 and operated as such until she was decommissioned and purchased by the current owners in 2001. Purchased as an empty hull with integral fuel tanks but without a deck, superstructure or machinery, allowed for a complete 100% refit to her current high specification which was completed in 2010.
